John McGovern is Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer at SmartChoice. He is an operationally focused finance professional with extensive experience as a board member and as a Chief Financial Officer of technology based publicly traded and private equity backed companies. Experiences range from division CFO of a multi-billion dollar entity in a multinational company, to stand-alone CFO of companies with $30M, $90M and $300M in revenues.
John spent the early years of his career at the Avaya/Lucent/AT&T family of companies. Beginning in an entry level position, John worked his way to the roles of Vice President and General Manager of the Small Business Division at AT&T, Vice President of Working Capital at Lucent, and Group Finance Vice President and Divisional CFO at Avaya.
After leaving Avaya, John became Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Glowpoint, a managed video services company, where he drove operational improvement and listed the company on the New York Stock Exchange. After Glowpoint, he became Chief Financial Officer at Strategic Products and Services, a privately held multi-vendor System Integrator for Unified Communication, where he revamped financial reporting and analytics for the organization and implemented new accounting, purchasing and collections processes and systems.
Most recently, John was Chief Financial Officer for Star2Star Communications, a privately held Unified Communications company, where he revamped the accounting, collections, purchasing, warehousing, and financial planning and analysis functions, turning the company profitable with positive cash flow.
John serves on the Board of Directors for Affinity Federal Credit Union, New Jersey’s largest credit union headquartered in Basking Ridge, NJ where he has served as Treasurer, Vice Chairman and Chairman.
John holds a Master of Science degree in Management from the College of Saint Elizabeth and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Kean University.
