Johnathon Loira
Controller
As Controller at SmartChoice, Johnathon Loira oversees the company’s financial strategy and operations, including financial reporting and analysis, budgeting and control, payroll, cash receipts, and tax management. He implements SmartChoice’s accounting policies and procedures, performs financial audits to ensure account accuracy, and builds reports based on data analysis, working closely with departments across the company to keep financial operations aligned with business goals.
Johnathon specializes in tax work for large corporations and financial utilization planning, with hands-on expertise in bank reconciliations, complex tax research, quarterly and monthly filings, and extensive general ledger work. He brings more than a decade of financial accounting experience across multiple industries to SmartChoice, having joined the company in 2020.
Before SmartChoice, Johnathon spent six years in public accounting, including roles at CitrinCooperman and as an Accountant at Michael J. Mazzola CPA PC, where he performed sales tax and bank reconciliations, filed federal and New York State withholding and sales tax forms, prepared corporate tax returns (1120 and 1120S) and other IRS filings, and maintained the general ledger for a roster of clients. Across his public accounting career, Johnathon worked in the Business Advisory Group helping companies solve complex accounting issues related to tax and audit, developing a client-facing approach to finding innovative solutions to tax and accounting challenges that he brings to his work at SmartChoice today.
Johnathon is a graduate of Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, NY, where he earned a B.S. in Accounting. He currently resides in White Plains, New York.
