As Smart Choice Communication’s (SCC) Director of Field Operations, Tommy Coyne is responsible for the overall implementation of field activities and reporting on the progress of activities, and for the management engineer team. Mr. Coyne has direct supervision of one of the NYC offices, ensuring the smooth flow of work and organizational skills of the systems engineers in a chaotic field. In collaboration with the Project Managers, he implements innovative, high-quality programs that align with SCC’s strategic direction. He provides guidance to the Field Operations team, ensuring the preparation of timely and high-quality progress and program reports. Along with evaluating progress towards field goals and benchmarks, Mr. Coyne manages budget and coordinates materials to ensure ongoing operations. He works directly with executives to monitor project performance, ensuring that schedules, safety, and quality goals are achieved.
Mr. Coyne is a US Navy Veteran with a long telecommunications background. He began working in the telecom industry in 1997, learning the technical aspects of the field. A seasoned global ops executive, Coyne has over 20 years of experience, having held senior positions in operations management for clients such as Verizon, Cablevision, Charter, and Black Box. Working for both large and small organizations, Mr. Coyne has learned to increase efficiency and effectiveness within the field operations units. He believes this is best achieved by constant training and the performance of quality inspections. He has experienced everything from POTS, to Fiber Optics, to complete Data Center installs throughout his career. One of the more compelling experiences in Mr. Coyne’s career was participating in the restoration of the Far Rockaway Central Office after it was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy.
Before joining SCC in 2019, Coyne served as project manager at Professional Teleconcepts. He is a certified telecommunications Project Manager, along with being certified in OSHA30, and holds certifications in fiber optic splicing, installations, and maintenance. Mr. Coyne received an A.S in Business Management from Trevecca University in Nashville. He enjoys the atmosphere at SCC and is dedicated to the growth of the company and improving the quality of service for the customer. Mr. Coyne currently resides in Bellmore, NY with his wife and two kids. In his spare time, he enjoys coaching little league, staying active at the gym, and well as motorcycle repair.
